Poverty doesn't always look like an empty refrigerator.

Sometimes it looks like a child going to sleep in a bed where they will be bitten throughout the night. Sometimes it is an elderly person living with an infestation they cannot physically or financially address. Sometimes a family has a home, food, and clothing—but they are trapped in a problem that costs far more to solve than they can afford.

 

Remembering the Poor is a ministry of Train & Tell Ministries created to meet practical needs that can otherwise go unanswered. We believe following Christ involves serving people. It means being willing to see those needs—and doing something about them.

Bed Bug/Roach/Critter Relief

Our Remembering the Poor initiative addresses severe bed bug and other infestations in financially vulnerable households. Bed bugs, roaches and even wildlife can become overwhelming.

Families may try sprays, powders, foggers, discarding furniture, and countless other remedies without eliminating the infestation. Meanwhile, the problem continues to spread through bedrooms, furniture, clothing, and belongings.

Professional remediation can be financially impossible for a household already struggling to meet ordinary expenses.

That is where we can help.

Train & Tell has access to licensed pesticide application expertise and trained people who can provide the labor necessary to address these infestations properly.

Our goal is not simply to provide someone with another product to try.

Our goal is to help a household get through the entire unmanageable process.

 

Depending upon the circumstances, assistance may include:

• Professional bed bug treatment

• Treatment materials and supplies

• Preparation assistance

• Laundry and containment

• Mattress and box-spring encasements

• Temporary lodging when necessary

• Transportation assistance

• Follow-up inspections and treatments

• Other necessities directly related to successful remediation

Why This Matters

For a family with sufficient resources, bed bugs are an expensive and frustrating problem.

But, for someone living in poverty, they can become a seemingly permanent condition.

Children should not have to accept being bitten every night because their parents cannot afford treatment. "These critters are eating me alive!" (6 yr old girl -Ellington) She has a grandmother on oxysgen and 3 siblings all under 12 yrs old. There house has been infested over a year.

An elderly or disabled person should not have to continue living in an infested home because the physical and financial demands of remediation are beyond their ability. Recently, a 97 yr old man in Van buren was taken from his home because of an infestation he could not afford to remediate.

These are people in our communities.

They are our neighbors.

They are someone's grandmother.

Someone's daughter.

They are families sitting in churches, visiting food pantries, raising children, working jobs, living on Social Security, or simply trying to make it through another month.

We want to remember them.

Churches Can Help

Local churches are uniquely positioned to know when someone in their community is struggling.

Remembering the Poor gives churches a practical resource when they encounter a household dealing with a serious bed bug infestation but unable to afford professional help.

Churches can participate in three ways:

REFER A HOUSEHOLD

Pastors and churches can refer people who genuinely need assistance.

SPONSOR A HOUSEHOLD

A church, Sunday school class, missions group, business, family, or individual can fund all or part of the cost of helping a household become free from an infestation.

BECOME A MONTHLY PARTNER

Recurring gifts allow Train & Tell to maintain a Bed Bug Relief Fund so assistance can begin when a qualified need arises rather than waiting until enough money can be raised for an individual case. we need supplies such as bed covers, funds for chemicals, supplies and operations.

Give to Remembering the Poor

Some households require treatment alone. Others require extensive preparation, laundry, supplies, temporary lodging, transportation, and repeated treatment.

Gifts to Remembering the Poor allow Train & Tell Ministries to put resources where they are needed to complete the work.

$25 can provide treatment supplies.

$50 can help provide protective encasements and preparation materials.

$100 can help cover laundry, containment, or treatment expenses.

$250 can fund a substantial portion of assistance for a household.

$500+ can make comprehensive remediation possible for families facing severe infestations.

Churches and donors may also choose to sponsor an household.

More Than Pest Control

Remembering the Poor isn't a pest-control program with a ministry name attached to it.

It is ministry expressed through practical service.

When Train & Tell enters someone's life through a need like this, our purpose is to treat that person with dignity, compassion, and the love of Christ.

We can listen.

We can encourage.

We can serve.

We can pray.

And when the opportunity is given, we can tell them about the hope we have in Jesus Christ.

Sometimes ministry begins with a Bible. Sometimes it begins by helping someone sleep safely in their own bed again.
