You Can—Because Jesus Did

There are times when we whisper to ourselves, “I can’t.” I can’t get free from this sin. I can’t keep going in this calling. I can’t forgive. I can’t believe. I can’t overcome. And maybe on our own, we’re right. But the gospel doesn’t begin with what we can do—it begins with what Jesus already did.
“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33) “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)
The God who raised Jesus from the dead is the God who empowers the weak, restores the weary, and finishes what He starts. Jesus didn’t just die for your sins—He lived the life you couldn’t live. He obeyed perfectly, endured faithfully, and rose victoriously. And now, through His Spirit, His power lives in you.
You can walk in freedom—because Jesus defeated sin. You can forgive—because Jesus forgave you. You can love the unlovable—because Jesus loved you first. You can press on—because Jesus pressed through the cross and rose again.
The enemy will tell you, “You’re not enough.” God doesn’t argue with that—He simply says, “But Christ is.” That’s the foundation of your strength. Not self-confidence. Not sheer willpower. But Christ in you, the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27).
So when you feel like giving up, remember: you can—because Jesus did. He didn’t stop halfway. He didn’t stay in the tomb. And He didn’t leave you powerless.
Reflective questions:
In what areas of your life have you believed “I can’t”—and how might Christ’s victory change your perspective?
Are you relying on your own strength or Christ’s power living in you when facing your biggest struggles?
Prayer: A Prayer to the God Who Empowers
Lord Jesus,
I confess I feel too weak, too broken, or too flawed.
But You already overcame what I cannot.
Fill me with Your Spirit. Strengthen me with Your life.
I will trust not in myself, but in You—and walk forward in Your power.
In Your name, Amen.
