Psalm 61:2
“I call to You from the ends of the earth when my heart is without strength. Lead me to a rock that is high above me.”
There are moments when life hits so hard, you don’t even have the strength to pray. You can’t fix it. You can’t escape it. You’re just… overwhelmed. David knew that feeling. From exile, from betrayal, from the weight of his own emotions, he cried out with raw honesty: “My heart is without strength.” And instead of pretending to be okay, he reached for the only One who could hold him.
Notice where he looks—not inward, not to others, but upward: “Lead me to a rock that is higher than I.” In other words, “God, take me somewhere I can’t get to on my own. Lift me above what’s crushing me. Be my safe place.” That’s what God offers in the storm: not always an escape, but a higher place to stand.
God doesn’t shame the overwhelmed. He meets them. He lifts their head. He stabilizes their footing. When your heart is collapsing under the pressure, He is still your Rock—immovable, unchanging, strong enough to hold you and everything that’s threatening to undo you.
To be anchored in the storm is to stop pretending and start clinging. You don’t need to have it all together. You need to cry out to the One who does. And when you do, you’ll find what David found—not just relief, but refuge.
Reflection:
What has been weighing you down emotionally, mentally, or spiritually?
What would it look like to avoid fighting alone and ask God to lead you to higher ground today?
Ask the Rock of our salvation for guidance. Cling to him. He kives within you and is calling you to a devout and trust.
