John 8:31–32 (HCSB)
“So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed Him, ‘If you continue in My word, you really are My disciples. You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’”
Truth isn’t just about knowing facts—it’s about knowing Jesus. And the freedom He offers comes as you continue in His Word, walking in step with what He has revealed. Freedom isn’t found in doing what you want or living in a certain country—no matter how awesome that country is! GO USA!
Freedom is found in living as you were made. And that begins with Truth.
Jesus wasn’t talking about temporary relief or a great country on Earth—He was talking about eternal liberty. Freedom from sin, shame, and fear. But He tied that freedom to a condition: “If you continue in My word…” Not just a one-time read or occasional glance, but a consistent walk with Him through His Word.
These dichotomies will flourish in the Christian who is not anchored in the Word, but will diminish in the learning disciple.
The more you walk in truth, the more you will experience freedom. Lies lose their grip. Chains start to fall. Wounds begin to heal. And what’s left is a life anchored—not in emotion or opinion—but in the liberating truth of Christ.
Selah: (pause and reflect)
Are there any areas of your life where you need to experience the freeing power of God’s truth?
How can you stay rooted in Jesus’ Word so that truth becomes your daily direction?
Heart to Heart: (listen to and talk with God)
Jesus, thank You for the freedom You offer through Your Word. Help me continue in it—daily, faithfully, wholeheartedly. Break every lie I’ve believed, and lead me into the freedom that only Your truth can give. Amen.
