The Lamb of God

John 1:4 "In Him was life, and that life was the light of men."
When John the Baptist saw Jesus, he didn’t shout, “Here is the King!” or “Here is the Judge!” He pointed to Him and said, “Here is the Lamb of God.” With those words, he connected Jesus to the entire sacrificial system of the Old Testament. From the lamb provided for Isaac, to the blood of the Passover, to the daily sacrifices in the temple—every lamb had pointed to this Lamb.
Jesus didn’t come merely to inspire or instruct. He came to die. The sin of the world couldn’t be ignored or excused—it had to be taken away. And only a perfect, willing sacrifice could do that. Jesus, the Lamb of God, took our guilt and bore it in His own body so that we could stand forgiven and free.
To call Him the Lamb of God is to recognize both His gentleness and His greatness. He laid down His life in obedience to the Father and in love for you.
Selah:
Today, reflect on how the sacrifice God provided for us in Christ is complete!
Prayer: Jesus, Lamb of God, thank You for taking my place and bearing my sin. Your sacrifice has made me clean. Help me to live in the freedom You purchased and to never lose sight of the cost of my redemption. Amen.
