The authority

Updated: Jul 12

Jesus is King of Kings
Jesus is King of Kings

Then Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. – Matthew 28:18 (HCSB)

These words, spoken by the resurrected Christ, are a thunderclap of divine power and cosmic claim: “All authority… has been given to Me.” Jesus is not requesting influence—He declares absolute dominion. He is not a regional leader or religious figure—He holds jurisdiction over every realm: heaven, earth, and everything in between.

This declaration forms the foundation of the Great Commission.

Before sending His disciples to the nations, Jesus affirms that their mission stands on the rock of His Authority. The Greek word exousia used here refers not merely to power, but to the legitimate right to rule. Jesus claimed this throughout His ministry. In Matthew 7:29, He taught “as one having authority.” In Matthew 9:6, He declared that the Son of Man has “authority on earth to forgive sins.” Now, risen from the dead, He confirms what the resurrection proved—He reigns without rival.

This authority is not just over circumstances or spirits—it’s over salvation, judgment, history, and hearts. No ruler, no sickness, no spiritual force can stand against Him. His words are final. His rule is unshakable. And His command is not optional.

To call Jesus Authority is to submit joyfully to the One who earned that right by obedience, humility, and triumph. It is to stop living as your own ruler and start walking in the power of the One who has conquered every enemy.

Pause and Reflect:

How do you behave when in the presence of authority?

How might your attitudes, words, and actions be transformed if you lived with constant awareness that you are always in the presence of Jesus Christ?

Prayer: Jesus, You are Authority—absolute, eternal, and good. I bow before Your rule with joy and reverence. Speak, and I will follow. Command, and I will obey. Thank You for conquering death and securing all things in Your hands. Rule in me today. Amen.
