Proverbs 12:1 "Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but one who hates correction is stupid."

Yes, the Bible actually says that. The Word teaches us to stop being defensive. Hating correction isn’t just immature—it’s foolish. When someone points out something in us needing change, our instinct is often to protect our pride. We deflect, deny, justify, or blame. But none of that leads to growth.

Being defensive is one of the fastest ways to stay stuck

in the same spiritual and relational ruts.

People who grow most are the ones who receive feedback well. They don’t take everything personally. They ask questions. They examine themselves honestly. They don’t always agree with the correction—but they don’t immediately reject it either. That kind of teachability is rare—and powerful.

Jesus didn’t need correction, but He welcomed questions. He never responded defensively—not even when misunderstood. His identity was so rooted in the Father that He didn’t flinch when people challenged Him. That’s the kind of groundedness we need if we want to become more like Him.

Do not defend yourself every time someone points something out. Instead, ask, “What’s true in this?” Let God use even imperfect feedback to shape you. Growth starts where defensiveness ends.

Reflection Questions:

How do I typically respond when someone corrects me—and how would Jesus respond differently?

What’s one piece of feedback I’ve resisted that I need to reconsider?

Prayer: Father, help me lay down my pride. Teach me to receive correction with grace and wisdom. Make me more like Jesus—secure, teachable, and humble enough to grow. Amen.

Think about it today while you walk in his love and share His grace!
