Peace in the Waiting

Psalm 27:14 “Wait for the Lord; be strong and courageous. Wait for the Lord.”
Waiting can feel like the slow death of hope. Inactivity weighs heavy, especially when life’s storms scream for action. But the psalmist doesn’t tell us to wait passively, he calls us to wait with strength and courage. This kind of waiting isn’t weakness; it’s worship.
David knew what it meant to wait. He had been promised a throne but lived in caves. He had been anointed king but was hunted like a criminal. In that long stretch of unmet expectations and delayed answers, he learned the strength of waiting well. His trust in God was refined by waiting.
Waiting doesn’t mean God is doing nothing. It means He is doing something deeper—something in us. It means the answer hasn’t arrived yet because either the timing isn’t right, or we’re not yet ready. God’s delays are never arbitrary. They are purposeful, pressing us into trust, stripping away our illusions of control, and anchoring us to something stronger than outcomes: His presence.
This is the doctrine of sanctification through patience—the truth that God uses seasons of delay to shape, purify, and mature His people. Waiting is not wasted time in God's kingdom. It is often the very context in which faith is tested, refined, and strengthened.
To be anchored in the storm is to wait not for the storm to end, but for the Lord to act.
Peace doesn’t come when your situation changes; it comes when your heart rests in the One who never changes. (Psalm 46.10)
Reflect: What are you waiting on right now that feels urgent or painful? How can you wait with strength instead of frustration?
Pray: Lord, I confess that waiting wears me down. I want answers, resolution, and change but You are calling me to trust. Teach me to wait not with impatience, but with courage and confidence in Your goodness. Anchor my heart in Your presence, and let peace grow even in the tension of delay.Amen.
