Grace is Greater than shame!

Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. This poor man cried out, and, the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. (Psalm 34:5,6) Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. (Romans 8:1)

Shame is more than guilt—it’s the voice that says not only did you mess up, you are a mess. It’s the inner whisper that says you’re unworthy, unlovable, and beyond repair. Shame tries to drive you from God. But grace calls you to run toward Him.

Going to God when you’re ashamed feels like the hardest thing to do—because shame tells you He doesn’t want you. But that’s a lie. Jesus bore not only your sin, but your shame (Hebrews 12:2). The very parts of you you’re tempted to hide are the parts He already died for.

Adam and Eve hid behind fig leaves. Peter wept after denying Jesus. Yet God sought them both—not to crush them, but to cover them in mercy. You don’t need to clean yourself up to come to God. You need to come to God so He can cleanse you.

Bring your worst. Lay it down. Let Him lift your face and remind you: you are forgiven, you are loved, and you are not beyond grace.

Shame is the primary driver of isolation. If Grace is the "First Mover" that finds the sinner in the dark, what specific "fig leaf" (hiding mechanism) do you find yourself reaching for when you fail?

How would your response to failure change if you truly believed that God’s presence is a place of cleansing rather than a courtroom of condemnation?

Father,

Shame tells me to hide—but I want to run to You instead. Cover me in Your mercy. Cleanse what I’ve stained. Remind me that Jesus died for this very moment—so I wouldn’t carry this weight alone. Lift my head. Heal my heart. And let me walk forward free.

 In Jesus’ name, Amen.
