“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.” – Philippians 3:20
Some longings run deeper than words. They stir quietly beneath the surface of everyday life—through grief that won’t go away, through beauty that leaves us breathless, through moments when even joy feels incomplete. It's the ache of eternity, the whisper in the soul that says, This is not home.
As believers, we carry dual identities—we live in this world, but we don’t belong to it. Our true citizenship is in heaven. That means every heartbreak, every weakness, every injustice, every goodbye is a reminder that we were made for something more. We were made for a kingdom that cannot be shaken, a city whose builder is God.
This yearning isn’t escapism—it’s vision. It pulls us forward with holy longing, sharpening our hope and loosening our grip on what fades. It reminds us that all the best things here are just shadows of what’s coming. The peace we taste in worship and prayer, the love we feel in community, the joy we glimpse in creation—these are foretastes of forever.
One day the waiting will end. The Savior we eagerly await will return. The broken will be mended. The tears will be wiped away. The ache will be answered. Until then, we live in the tension—grateful for what is, hungry for what’s promised, faithful until we’re finally home.
Prayer: Father, my heart longs for home—not just a place, but Your presence in full. Thank You for the promise of heaven, where You dwell and where all will be made right. Help me live today with eternity in view. Let that longing purify my love, deepen my faith, and steady my soul. In Jesus’ name, amen.
