He Sees You in the Storm

Mark 6:48 “He saw them being battered as they rowed, because the wind was against them. Around three in the morning He came toward them walking on the sea…”

There is a unique kind of loneliness that comes when you're caught in a storm and no one seems to notice. The disciples felt it—fighting the wind in the middle of the night, soaked, exhausted, overwhelmed. Jesus had sent them out across the lake, and now they were rowing against a headwind so fierce they couldn’t make progress. It felt like abandonment. But it wasn’t.

Mark says, “He saw them.” Jesus was on the mountainside praying, but He saw them. Before He ever walked on the water, before He stilled the waves, He was watching. He wasn’t unaware. He wasn’t disinterested. He saw their struggle and moved toward them with with peace.

This is the Jesus we trust. Not one who observes our pain from a distance but One who enters it. He walks on the very thing that threatens to sink us. And He comes in the darkest hour, when we feel most alone. The timing may not match our preference, but it always matches God’s purpose.

This passage reveals the doctrine of Christ’s providential care—that Jesus sees, knows, and responds to the needs of His people with intentional timing and personal presence. He is never late, never distracted, never absent. His intercession is not passive; it moves toward us in power and compassion.

To be anchored in the storm is to believe that just because you don’t see Jesus doesn’t mean He doesn’t see you. He sees the tears you haven’t told anyone about. He sees the fatigue behind your smile. And He is coming—not always with immediate rescue, but always with divine presence.

Pause: When have you felt like God was far away in a struggle? How does knowing Jesus sees and moves toward you in storms change your posture?

Pray: Jesus, Thank You for seeing me when I feel unseen. Thank You for moving toward me when I feel stuck and alone. Help me trust that You are never far even in the dark, even in the wind. Let Your presence be my peace, and Your timing my confidence. I will rest not in what I see, but in knowing I am seen by You.Amen.
