God Is Good

Nahum 1:7 The Lord is good, a stronghold in a day of distress; He cares for those who take refuge in Him.

When pain presses in, one question rises above the rest: Is God still good? It’s easy to affirm His goodness when life is comfortable, but the storm has a way of shaking that confidence. Loss, disappointment, and silence can cloud our vision. But Scripture doesn’t stutter: The Lord is good—even in the day of distress.

Nahum was writing to a people living under the threat of destruction, surrounded by enemies and fear. Yet in that dark place, he declared the unchanging truth: God is not just good sometimes—He is good always. And in your day of distress, He isn’t distant. He’s your stronghold—your shelter, your defender, your place of peace.

God’s goodness doesn’t mean everything feels good. It means that in everything, He is working for your ultimate good—even when you can’t see it yet. The cross is your forever proof: if God didn’t withhold His Son, He won’t withhold His care. He sees you. He knows. And He still loves.

To be anchored in the storm is to hold fast to God’s character when nothing else makes sense. His goodness is not on trial. It’s your refuge. Run to it. Rest in it. And remember—your circumstances may shift, but His heart toward you never will.

Selah: What situation has recently caused you to question God’s goodness?

How can you reframe that struggle in light of God's unchanging care and character?

Pray: Lord, remind me that You are good—even when life is hard. Help me rest in Your character, not my feelings. You are my refuge and strength. When I cannot trace Your hand, help me trust Your heart. Anchor me in the truth that You care for those who run to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

That's a great reason to have hope in Christ today!
