Scripture:“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you.” – Matthew 28:19–20 (HCSB)
Go and Tell Today
When Jesus rose from the dead, His first command wasn’t for the disciples to stay comfortable but to go and tell. The gospel is never meant to remain contained; it is living water designed to flow outward. Yet in many churches, evangelism is treated as an optional program rather than the central calling of every believer.
In Training Churches for Evangelism, I emphasize that this mission begins with ordinary people. You don’t need to be a pastor, theologian, or polished speaker. Jesus called fishermen, tax collectors, and everyday men and women to be His witnesses. Today, He still delights to use us—our personalities, stories, and relationships—to carry the good news.
When a church shifts from a “come and see” approach to a “go and tell” lifestyle, culture transforms. Members begin to view workplaces, neighborhoods, and families as mission fields ripe for harvest. Conversations that once felt intimidating become Spirit-prompted opportunities. Fear diminishes as faith grows, and the whole church discovers the joy of obedience.
The Commission is clear: Go. Tell. Make disciples. And it comes with a promise — Jesus never sends us alone. He equips us with His Spirit, grants us His authority, and goes with us as we share His name. The mission belongs to Him, but the joy of telling belongs to us.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for entrusting us with the Great Commission. Forgive me for the times I’ve hesitated to go and tell. Fill me with Your Spirit, give me boldness, and make my church a sending people. Open doors for me to share the good news in my everyday life. Amen.
