King
“Look, your King is coming to you, gentle, and mounted on a donkey, even on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.” – Matthew 21:5 (HCSB)
As Jesus entered Jerusalem, the crowd shouted hosannas, and the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9 came to life. This was no ordinary rabbi—this was the fulfillment of Israel’s long-awaited hope. Your King is coming to you. Not with armies and iron, but with humility and peace. In this moment, Jesus fully embraced His identity as King, yet on terms that overturned every human expectation.
The Gospel of Matthew repeatedly presents Jesus as King. From the very beginning, He is called “the Son of David” (Matthew 1:1), the rightful heir to the throne. In Matthew 2:2, wise men ask, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews?” And even in His death, the title remains—in Matthew 27:37, the sign above His cross reads: “This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.”
But this King reigns differently. He conquers not by force but by sacrifice. His crown was of thorns, His throne a cross, and His coronation a resurrection. Yet He is no less royal—He is infinitely more. He is King of kings and Lord of lords! This King reigns in righteousness and brings a kingdom that will never end.
To call Jesus King is to submit to His rule and find joy in His reign. It is to abandon lesser allegiances and bend the knee to the One who alone is worthy. This King does not oppress—He liberates. And He is coming again, not on a donkey, but in glory.
Prayer: King Jesus, I welcome You not just into my city, but into my life. Rule over my heart, my mind, my desires, and my days. You are gentle and just, mighty and merciful. Establish Your kingdom in me today, and reign forever as my Lord. Amen.
Keep it in mind today as you walk in His love and share His grace!
