2 Thessalonians 3:1 (implied by Pauline usage of Lord in the harvest context) “Pray for us that the word of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you.”
While Paul never uses the exact phrase “Lord of the harvest,” his letters are saturated with urgency for the Gospel to go forth—and always under the Lordship of Christ. Jesus, as the Lord of the harvest, sends workers, empowers their message, and brings in the fruit. The Church does not grow by human strategy but by divine appointment. Christ is sovereign over the mission.
This name ties directly to Jesus’ own words in Luke 10:2—“The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.” Paul lived this reality. Every city he entered, every soul he encountered, he did so knowing that Christ was orchestrating the advance of His kingdom. The Lord of the harvest leads the work—and also owns the field.
To call Jesus Lord of the harvest is to be moved to action and prayer. We are not passive observers—we are co-laborers under a sovereign Master. He calls, sends, empowers, and reaps. Our part is to obey and pray. The fields are still white. The Gospel is still powerful. And the Lord of the harvest is still sending laborers—including you.
Prayer: Jesus, Lord of the harvest, here I am. Send me. Use my life, my words, and my witness to gather in the harvest You have prepared. Empower Your Church to go with boldness, and glorify Yourself through every soul brought home.
