“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.” (Ephesians 1:7) “You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” (1 Corinthians 6:19b–20)

To be redeemed is to be rescued at a cost—to be bought back from slavery and brought into freedom. That’s exactly what Jesus did. He didn’t just forgive your sin—He paid the price to set you free from its power. Redemption means you’re no longer defined by your past or bound by your failures.

You’ve been transferred from darkness to light, from guilt to grace, from death to life. You now belong—not to the world, not to sin—but to the One who redeemed you with His own blood. Let that identity sink in. You’re not broken goods or a discarded soul.

You are purchased, purified, and priceless in God’s eyes. And that changes how you live—not to earn redemption, but to reflect it. You are redeemed—and you can live like it.

Theological Tenet at Play: Substitutionary Atonement This devotional is built upon the doctrine of Substitutionary Atonement—the truth that Jesus Christ acted as our substitute by taking the penalty for our sins upon Himself. By shedding His blood, He paid the "ransom" required to satisfy divine justice, thereby purchasing our freedom and reconciling us to God.

Discussion Questions

  1. Redemption means you are "no longer defined by your past". What specific parts of your history are you still allowing to define you, and how would believing you are "purchased and purified" change that?

  2. If we are called to live in a way that "reflects" our redemption rather than earning it, what is one choice you can make today that honors the "price" Jesus paid for your freedom?

Thank You for Redemption, Jesus. Thank You for redeeming me. You saw my chains and paid the price to set me free. I don’t deserve it, but I receive it with a grateful heart. Help me to live in light of that freedom. Let my choices reflect the value You placed on me. I’m no longer a slave—I’m Yours. May my life declare the power of redemption. In Your name, Amen.
