Made for His Presence: Created to Walk with God

“They heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day…” (Genesis 3:8)
"In Your presence there is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” (Psalm 16:11)
From the very beginning, God’s desire was not just to rule over humanity—but to walk with us. You weren’t created merely to serve God, or to learn facts about Him. You were created to know Him, to be with Him, and to dwell in His presence. The picture in Eden is one of intimacy and closeness—God and humanity walking together in unhindered fellowship. That is what your heart was made for, and that is why nothing else fully satisfies.
Sin fractured that relationship and drove humanity from the presence of God. Yet the cross of Christ opened the way back. In Jesus we are not only forgiven—we are welcomed home. His death tore the veil, His resurrection sealed our adoption, and His Spirit now dwells within us. Through Him, we are called to draw near again, to abide daily in the God who delights to be with His people. This is the great reversal: what was lost in Eden is restored in Christ.
The theological tenant at play is the doctrine of union with God through Christ. Christianity is not primarily about rules, rituals, or even religion—it is about reconciliation. God’s plan of redemption has always aimed at restoring His presence to His people. The Spirit’s indwelling is both the foretaste and the guarantee of our eternal future, where we will see Him face to face. To walk in His presence now is to live in step with eternity, letting His nearness shape our joy, our strength, and our identity.
His presence is not just for Sunday, but for every moment. It is peace in the storm, a voice in the silence, and strength in our weakness. The more time you spend with Him, the more you realize: this is what you were made for. The aim of your life is not simply to do for God, but to be with God. That nearness is the greatest gift—and it is available to you right now.
Reflection Questions:
How am I tempted to substitute activity for God instead of intimacy with Him?
What practices help me quiet distractions and become more aware of His presence throughout my day?
🙏 Prayer: A Prayer for Living in God’s PresenceLord,I was made to be with You—to know You, to walk with You, to abide in You. Draw me close today. Quiet the distractions and stir my heart to seek Your presence above all. Let Your nearness be my joy, my strength, and my home. I don’t want to just know about You—I want to know You. You are what my heart was made for.In Jesus’ name,Amen.
