Loved Through the Fire

ree

Romans 8:38-39

“For I am persuaded that not even death or life, angels or rulers… will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

There’s a fear that haunts many in their hardest moments: What if this is the one thing that breaks God’s love for me? But Paul destroys that fear. Absolutely nothing—not life’s chaos, death’s shadow, spiritual battles, or personal failures—can separate you from the love of God.

This is not sentimental language. It’s war-tested truth. Paul had endured beatings, shipwrecks, prison, and betrayal. And still, he declared: I am persuaded. He wasn’t guessing. He was convinced. Why? Because God's love had carried him through every storm, and never once failed.

When you're in the fire, it may feel like God is far. But feelings are not facts. The love of Christ for you is not measured by ease. He didn’t love us from afar; He entered the fire with us, even going to the cross. That kind of love doesn't vanish in trouble—it shines brightest.

This is the doctrine of union with Christ—the unbreakable spiritual bond between the believer and the risen Lord. Our security is not rooted in our faithfulness but in His. Because we are in Christ, His love surrounds us not only in eternity but in every moment, including our most painful ones.

To be anchored in the storm is to believe that God’s love is stronger than anything you’ll face. It won’t always take you around the storm. But it will always carry you through it.

Selah:

  • What has made you question God’s love in the past or present?

  • How can you ground yourself in the unshakable truth of His love today?

Pray:

Lord, I confess that in the fire, I sometimes wonder if You’re still with me. But Your Word says nothing—nothing—can separate me from Your love. Remind me that I am in Christ, and therefore secure, not because of my strength but because of Your unchanging presence. Anchor me today in the truth that I am deeply loved—even here, even now. I pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
